The short version
- We only collect what you give us through our forms (plus which form and page you used), and standard hosting logs.
- We use it to tell you about Palayn's launch and to reply to you. We never sell it or use it for ads.
- No cookies, no analytics, no ad trackers.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at any time: contact@palayn.com.
1Who we are and what this covers
Palayn is run by its founders ("Palayn", "we", "us"). We are building Palayn, an app for international students, and this website lets you join the waitlist and get in touch with us.
This policy covers the website at palayn.com, the waitlist and the contact form. It doesn't cover the Palayn app. The app will have its own privacy policy, which we'll publish when the app launches.
2What we collect
When you join the waitlist
Whether you use the sign-up form on the home page, the "Join" pop-up or the "Stay Updated" form in the footer, we collect:
- your email address;
- which button or form you used and the page you were on (for example, the home page hero or the footer);
- the time you signed up.
When you use the contact form
- your email address, so we can reply;
- your name, if you choose to give it (it's optional);
- the topic you pick and the message you write;
- the page you sent it from and the time you sent it.
Please don't put sensitive information, such as passport numbers or health details, in your message.
When you visit the site
Like any website, our hosting provider automatically logs standard request data when your browser loads a page, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. See section 5.
Stored on your device only
If you switch between light and dark mode, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.
What we don't do
This website doesn't set cookies and doesn't use analytics, advertising pixels or any other tracking. If that ever changes, we'll update this policy first.
3How we use it
- To email you when Palayn launches, and occasionally before that with progress updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- To see which sign-up forms people use, so we can improve the site.
- To read and reply to your messages, and to improve Palayn based on what you tell us.
- To keep the website running and secure.
We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
4Why we're allowed to use it
Where data protection laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply, we rely on:
- your consent for the waitlist: you choose to sign up, and you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing or emailing us;
- our legitimate interests in replying to messages you send us and in keeping the website working and secure.
5Who handles your data
We use a small number of Google services to run this website. They process data on our behalf, or as part of delivering the service to your browser:
- Google Sheets and Google Apps Script receive and store what you submit through the waitlist and contact forms. Google acts as our data processor.
- Firebase Hosting (Google) serves this website and logs standard request data such as your IP address and browser.
- Google Fonts provides the site's typeface. When a page loads, your browser contacts Google's servers to download the font, which means Google receives your IP address.
You can read how Google handles data in Google's Privacy Policy. We don't share your information with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.
6Where your data is stored
Google may store and process this data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Data protection rules there may differ from the rules where you live.
7How long we keep it
- Waitlist emails are kept until we stop sending launch updates, or until you ask us to delete yours, whichever comes first.
- Contact form messages are kept for as long as we need to respond and follow up, then deleted. You can ask us to delete yours sooner.
- Hosting logs are kept by Google for a limited period under its own retention policies.
8Your rights
You can ask us to:
- access the information we hold about you;
- correct it if it's wrong;
- delete it;
- stop using it, or object to how we use it.
Email contact@palayn.com from the address you signed up with and tell us what you'd like us to do. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (EU and EEA), the UK GDPR, or the CCPA (California) may give you further rights, such as receiving a copy of your data or complaining to your local data protection authority. We'll respond to every request within the time the law requires.
9Keeping it safe
The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and only the people who run Palayn can access the submissions. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care to protect what you share with us.
10Children
This website and the waitlist aren't meant for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think someone under 16 has signed up, email us and we'll delete it.
11Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when what we do changes, and change the "Last updated" date at the top. If we make a significant change, we'll make it clear on this page and, where appropriate, let people on the waitlist know by email.
